Powerful Prophetic Promises

Wouldn’t that be the most amazing thing ever? Imagine opening your mailbox and seeing the envelope with your name handwritten on it. Would you be so excited to open it and see what’s inside?

Words of love, written just to you.

Encouragement.

Invitations to do better.

Promises that might leave you breathless.

Would you read it just once and then tuck it away, or would you treasure every word, returning to it again and again to make sure you understood and felt everything He wanted you to know?

Here’s the amazing thing, friend.

This coming weekend, September 30-October 1, living prophets (think Moses, Abraham, Isaiah, etc.) will in fact be sharing words of love, counsel, and invitation to all of God’s children. Messages for me, for you, for everyone. Perhaps even more amazing, there will be personalized messages shared by the Spirit that are intended for an audience of one. Just for me. Just for you.

I can’t wait.

As I’ve thought of what I might share here to bless you, my friends, it felt right to highlight a few of the many powerful prophetic promises that have been shared by Russell M. Nelson, President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A living prophet—called of God to help us joyfully overcome the struggles and sorrows of this world by hearing and following the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Dozens if not hundreds of invitations and promises could be shared. I’ll limit myself to ten, but if you’re interested, here’s an amazing site that links you to virtually every published message President Nelson has ever given.

Invitation and Promises #1 - Keep On The Covenant Path

(Given January 16, 2018 - the day the new First Presidency was introduced)

Keep on the covenant path. Your commitment to follow the Savior by making covenants with Him and then keeping those covenants will open the door to every spiritual blessing and privilege available to men, women, and children everywhere. The end for which each of us strives is to be endowed with power in a house of the Lord, sealed as families, faithful to covenants made in a temple that qualify us for the greatest gift of God, that of eternal life.

The ordinances of the temple and the covenants you make there are key to strengthening your life, your marriage and family, and your ability to resist the attacks of the adversary. Your worship in the temple and your service there for your ancestors will bless you with increased personal revelation and peace and will fortify your commitment to stay on the covenant path.

Invitation and Promises #2 - Revelation For Our Lives

(Given April 1, 2018 in the Sunday Morning session of General Conference)

Nothing opens the heavens quite like the combination of increased purity, exact obedience, earnest seeking, daily feasting on the words of Christ in the Book of Mormon, and regular time committed to temple and family history work.

To be sure, there may be times when you feel as though the heavens are closed. But I promise that as you continue to be obedient, expressing gratitude for every blessing the Lord gives you, and as you patiently honor the Lord’s timetable, you will be given the knowledge and understanding you seek. Every blessing the Lord has for you—even miracles—will follow. That is what personal revelation will do for you.

Invitation and Promises #3 - Remodel Your Home Into A Center Of Gospel Learning

(Given October 7, 2018 in the Sunday Afternoon session of General Conference)

The new home-centered, Church-supported integrated curriculum has the potential to unleash the power of families, as each family follows through conscientiously and carefully to transform their home into a sanctuary of faith. I promise that as you diligently work to remodel your home into a center of gospel learning, over time your Sabbath days will truly be a delight. Your children will be excited to learn and to live the Savior’s teachings, and the influence of the adversary in your life and in your home will decrease. Changes in your family will be dramatic and sustaining.

Invitation and Promises #4 - Women Have Full Access To God’s Power

(Given October 5, 2019 in the Saturday Evening session of General Conference)

My dear sisters, your power will increase as you serve others. Your prayers, fasting, time in the scriptures, service in the temple, and family history work will open the heavens to you.

I entreat you to study prayerfully all the truths you can find about priesthood power. You might begin with Doctrine and Covenants sections 84 and 107. Those sections will lead you to other passages. The scriptures and teachings by modern prophets, seers, and revelators are filled with these truths. As your understanding increases and as you exercise faith in the Lord and His priesthood power, your ability to draw upon this spiritual treasure that the Lord has made available will increase. As you do so, you will find yourselves better able to help create eternal families that are united, sealed in the temple of the Lord, and full of love for our Heavenly Father and for Jesus Christ.

Invitation and Promises #5 - Increasing Your Capacity To Feel Joy

(Given April 5, 2020 in the Sunday Morning session of General Conference)

I invite you to increase your participation in family history, including family history research and indexing. I promise that as you increase your time in temple and family history work, you will increase and improve your ability to hear Him.

I renew my plea for you to do whatever it takes to increase your spiritual capacity to receive personal revelation.

Doing so will help you know how to move ahead with your life, what to do during times of crisis, and how to discern and avoid the temptations and the deceptions of the adversary.

And, finally, we hear Him as we heed the words of prophets, seers, and revelators. Ordained Apostles of Jesus Christ always testify of Him. They point the way as we make our way through the heart-wrenching maze of our mortal experiences.

What will happen as you more intentionally hear, hearken, and heed what the Savior has said and what He is saying now through His prophets? I promise that you will be blessed with additional power to deal with temptation, struggles, and weakness. I promise miracles in your marriage, family relationships, and daily work. And I promise that your capacity to feel joy will increase even if turbulence increases in your life.

Invitation and Promises #6 - Becoming Men Eager To Repent

(Given April 6, 2019 in the Saturday Evening session of General Conference)

The Lord needs selfless men who put the welfare of others ahead of their own. He needs men who intentionally work to hear the voice of the Spirit with clarity. He needs men of the covenant who keep their covenants with integrity. He needs men who are determined to keep themselves sexually pure—worthy men who can be called upon at a moment’s notice to give blessings with pure hearts, clean minds, and willing hands. The Lord needs men eager to repent—men with a zeal to serve and be part of the Lord’s battalion of worthy priesthood bearers.

I bless you to become those men. I bless you with the courage to repent daily and learn how to exercise full priesthood power. I bless you to communicate the love of the Savior to your wife and children and to all who know you. I bless you to do better and be better. And I bless you that as you make these efforts, you will experience miracles in your life.

Invitation and Promises #7 - Faith To Move Mountains

(Given April 4, 2021 in the Sunday Morning session of General Conference)

Please know this: if everything and everyone else in the world whom you trust should fail, Jesus Christ and His Church will never fail you. The Lord never slumbers, nor does He sleep. He “is the same yesterday, today, and [tomorrow].” He will not forsake His covenants, His promises, or His love for His people. He works miracles today, and He will work miracles tomorrow.

Faith in Jesus Christ is the greatest power available to us in this life. All things are possible to them that believe.

Your growing faith in Him will move mountains—not the mountains of rock that beautify the earth but the mountains of misery in your lives. Your flourishing faith will help you turn challenges into unparalleled growth and opportunity.

Invitation and Promises #8 - Seek To Understand Temple Covenants And Ordinances

(Given October 3, 2021 in the Sunday Morning session of General Conference)

To each of you who has made temple covenants, I plead with you to seek—prayerfully and consistently—to understand temple covenants and ordinances. Spiritual doors will open. You will learn how to part the veil between heaven and earth, how to ask for God’s angels to attend you, and how better to receive direction from heaven. Your diligent efforts to do so will reinforce and strengthen your spiritual foundation.

Invitation and Promises #9 - The Lord Will Bless You With Miracles

(Given April 3, 2022 in the Sunday Morning session of General Conference)

Moroni assured us that “God has not ceased to be a God of miracles.” Every book of scripture demonstrates how willing the Lord is to intervene in the lives of those who believe in Him. He parted the Red Sea for Moses, helped Nephi retrieve the brass plates, and restored His Church through the Prophet Joseph Smith. Each of these miracles took time and may not have been exactly what those individuals originally requested from the Lord.

In the same way, the Lord will bless you with miracles if you believe in Him, “doubting nothing.” Do the spiritual work to seek miracles. Prayerfully ask God to help you exercise that kind of faith. I promise that you can experience for yourself that Jesus Christ “giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.” Few things will accelerate your spiritual momentum more than realizing the Lord is helping you to move a mountain in your life.

Invitation and Promises #10 - Using The Correct Name Of The Church

(Given October 7, 2018 in the Sunday Morning Session of General Conference)

My dear brothers and sisters, I promise you that if we will do our best to restore the correct name of the Lord’s Church, He whose Church this is will pour down His power and blessings upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints, the likes of which we have never seen. We will have the knowledge and power of God to help us take the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation, kindred, tongue, and people and to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord.
