I’ll be brief. I’ve given this a lot of thought. “Yes” to sponsorship. “No” to sponsorship.
Why in the world would anyone want to pay for what they can get for free?
Good dog gone question.
Creators are always faced with the question of how (and whether) to get paid for their work.
I’m not writing Bright & Morning Star for the money. But there are costs (of course) for this. The cost of the time required to research and write. Design costs. Promotions, marketing, etc.
A good comparison here could be the public radio model. Everyone gets the same content delivered to them at no cost. Listeners have the option to contribute monthly or annually as a way of showing they value the content being broadcast. (But I promise not to hold any annual fundraisers 😉 nor give Bright & Morning Star t-shirts or coffee mugs.)
As you can see, the two options are a monthly subscription of just $5 or an annual one for $30 (those are the lowest amounts Substack allows writers to charge.) Not ready to sponsor? 100% okay. Not ever thinking you’ll be sponsor? No worries! I’m excited to share everything with everyone—free subscribers and sponsors alike, in whatever ways work for you.
In conclusion, here’s why I invite you to consider being a sponsor. To help me add light to a darkening world. To bring hope to those whose “hands hang down.” To join me in this tiny plot of soil, planting and watering and cultivating good seeds. I’d be honored to have your support. The Bright and Morning Star is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
